The 29-year-old man was undergoing surgery at Grandview Hospital after being tased and then shot by police in Hatfield Township around 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.
Police were called after a resident reported seeing a man run through her backyard and hide in a neighbor's yard. There, they encountered the man between two woodpiles.
The man was ordered by police to come out and show his hands, but he refused, they said. In response, the officers tased him, but he ran toward them.
That's when an unspecified number of officers opened fire on him, investigators said. Police also say they recovered a knife.
Montgomery County Detectives are investigating the officer-involved shooting in accordance with county protocol.
The identities of the man and the officers involved have not been revealed.
